How to read this table

  • Long polling and Discord gateway bots keep a connection open all the time. They need a process that never sleeps: a VPS, a paid PaaS service or a worker plan. Free web tiers that sleep when idle are not suitable.
  • Webhook-only bots are woken by an HTTPS request, so serverless platforms such as Cloudflare Workers fit well and are often free at small scale.
  • Usage-based platforms (Railway, Fly.io) bill RAM and CPU by the second. A small idle bot is cheap, but set a spending limit and watch the usage page.

Step by step: deploy a bot to Railway, run a bot on a Vultr VPS with systemd. Longer reading: best hosting for Telegram bots and best free hosting for Discord bots.
